A. Chapter Overview

This chapter provides basic information about common drugs and the side effects associated with these drugs. By the end of this chapter, the caregiver should be able to:

  • Recognize common mild and more severe side effects of the medications.
  • Respond appropriately when a person seems to be experiencing adverse effects from medications.
  • Understand the types of information which should be communicated to a resident’s health care provider.
  • Define “side effect.”
